พลังงานที่ใช้ขับเคลื่อนเศรษฐกิจของแต่ละปรเทศประเทศในโลกนี้
มีมากมายหลายรูปแบบทั้งแบบที่ใช้แล้วสิ้นเปลืองหมดไปหรือพลังงานธรรมชาติบางอย่างที่ใช้แล้วหมุนเวียนนำกลับมาใช้ได้อีกอย่างพลังงานลม
พลังงานน้ำ แต่อีกพลังงานอย่างหนึ่งที่หมดเปลืองสิ้นไปและจะขาดแคลนในอนาคต คือ
พลังงานน้ำมัน
พลังงานน้ำมันจะมีองค์กรการค้าเรียกว่ากลุ่มประเทศองค์กรผู้ส่งออกน้ำมัน รวมตัวกันตั้งองค์การถาวรขึ้นมาที่กรุงแบกแดดประเทศอิรักเมื่อปี พ.ศ.2503 ชื่อ Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) ในช่วง 5 ปีแรก โอเปกมีสำนักงานใหญ่ตั้งอยู่ที่นครเจนีวา ประเทศสวิตเซอร์แลนด์ ต่อมาในเมื่อวันที่ 1 กันยายน 2508 จึงย้ายที่ทำการไปอยู่ที่กรุงเวียนนา ประเทศออสเตรีย มีสมาชิก 11 ประเทศ การรวมกลุ่มกันครั้งแรกประกอบด้วย 5 ประเทศ ได้แก่ เวเนซุเอลา อิหร่าน อิรัก คูเวต และซาอุดิอาระเบีย และประเทศอื่นเข้ามาเป็นสมาชิกเพิ่มขึ้นอีกแปดครั้ง 9 ประเทศ คือ
1. ปี พ.ศ. 2504 ประเทศกาตาร์
2. ปี พ.ศ. 2505 ประเทศอินโดนีเซีย ลิเบีย
3. ปี พ.ศ. 2510 ประเทศสหรัฐอาหรับ
4. ปี พ.ศ. 2512 ประเทศแอลจีเรีย
5. ปี พ.ศ. 2514 ประเทศไนจีเรีย
6. ปี พ.ศ. 2516 ประเทศเอกวาดอร์
7. ปี พ.ศ. 2518 ประเทศกาบอง
8. ปี พ.ศ. 2535 ประเทศเอกวาดอร์ตะวันออก
